Ceremony and Reception on the Occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the CRTD

In 2006, the German Research Foundation (DFG) approved the application for the establishment of a research centre for the investigation of regeneration processes in cells, tissues and organs. With its help, novel therapies for previously incurable diseases were to be developed. The Centre for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) at the TU Dresden was born. In the same year, there was another reason to celebrate: the CRTD became the first Cluster of Excellence within the framework of the German Excellence Initiative in East Germany.

Together with long-time supporters and companions, the CRTD now celebrated this special anniversary and looked back on what has been achieved so far. Furthermore, it also provided an insight into new initiatives and future goals of the institute. Guests such as the Saxon State Minister for Science, Sebastian Gemkow, the Rector of the TU Dresden, Prof. Ursula Staudinger as well as the Dean of Research of the Medical Faculty, Prof. Esther Troost, acknowledged in their speeches the development of the institute and the entire bioscience campus, which has been established in Dresden-Johannstadt over the past 20 years.

Saxon Minister for science Sebastian Gemkow paid tribute to the CRTD team:
“In addition to the great scientific knowledge that the researchers have gained here, the CRTD has made a decisive contribution to making the Free State of Saxony one of the world's most attractive locations for research in biotechnology. This has something to do with your commitment and your enthusiasm. I am very grateful for this and I am therefore convinced that the center will continue to write the success story."

The Rector, Prof. Staudinger, particularly emphasised the interdisciplinary cooperation at eye level which she considered the core of the CRTD's success story. She emphasised the importance of modern technologies for science and stated that the CRTD had successfully used the possibilities at the Johannstadt location to face the challenging balancing act between “bench and bedside”. As the first Cluster of Excellence of the TU Dresden, the CRTD also forms an important cornerstone for further successes within the Excellence Strategy.

Since the expiry of the DFG funding in 2019, the CRTD has been jointly funded by the Free State of Saxony, the TU Dresden and the Medical Faculty of TU Dresden, which is deemed a great success. This has made it possible to further develop the reputation as an internationally recognised research institute and to continue to make Dresden an attractive destination for researchers from all over the world. The scientists at the CRTD look forward to their research contributing to healthier lives for all people in the future. Their passion and commitment, said CRTD Director Prof. Federico Calegari, along with the support of so many companions, lead to a truly magical result.

The official part of the ceremony was followed by a reception in the inner courtyard, which offered the guests a rare opportunity for personal interaction. Musical contributions from Almuth Schulz (piano) and Thomas Seibig (saxophone) provided a suitable background to the occasion.
