13th CRTD Summer Conference offered great scientific exchange
On June 28, 2019, the Center for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD) at the TU Dresden attracted about 180 scientists and company representatives for its 13th CRTD Summer Conference. The focus of the conference was on science communication, scientific talks and showcase of the diverse and exciting research carried out within our campus in the form of an interactive poster session.
World-renowned speakers such as Prof. Yukiko Gotoh from the University of Tokyo (Regulation of neural progenitor fate during development) and Prof. Jan van Deursen from Mayo Clinic, Rochester/USA (How senescent cells drive aging and age-related disease) filled the CRTD auditorium as well as local speakers. The lectures of Dr. Mareike Albert (Gene regulatory mechanisms of neocortex development and evolution), Prof. Gerd Kempermann (How to write a 'perfect paper'?), Prof. Ezio Bonifacio (The 10 minute oral scientific presentation) and Dr. Nambirajan Govindarajan (Get your research funded) attracted a lot of attention.
"The feedback on our programme was very positive. Our invited speakers gave us a first-class perspective of the recent discoveries within their fields, which I am sure inspired many of us and even catalysed potential collaborations. The intensive discussions during the poster session also deserve special mention as they promoted excellent scientific exchanges, certainly conducive to furthering the science within our campus", says Dr. Maximina Yun, research group leader at CRTD and one of the conference organisers.
As every year, CRTD awarded the best posters - no easy task for the jury to determine the winners from around 180 scientific papers presented. The winners were: Sumeet Pal Singh (CRTD), Andreas Hartmann / Simon Ollmann (B CUBE) and Yuting Wang (CRTD). Congratulations! The summer conference then quickly turned into a summer party for all scientists and staff of the three TU Dresden institutes CRTD, BIOTEC and B CUBE located in the heart of Dresden-Johannstadt.
