Title: The apical Extracellular Matrix of Drosophila melanogaster in morphogenesis and physiology
Abstract: Extracellular matrices (ECMs) are fundamental components of organisms, playing essential roles in development, tissue architecture, and physiological function. In arthropods, a major constituent of the apical ECM is chitin, a remarkable biopolymer with broad biotechnological potential. Understanding how chitin-containing matrices are assembled and how they shape organ function remains a key biological challenge. Using Drosophila as a genetically tractable system, we investigate the molecular machinery that governs chitin deposition and matrix organisation to uncover how the ECM contribute to both organ morphogenesis and physiological function.
