Project team of TU Dresden nominated for the German Future Prize
After a team of TU Dresden has been awarded with the ‘Deutscher Zukunftspreis’ – the German President's Award for Innovation in Science and Technology – in 2016, the university again is honoured about a proposition. The German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) proposed for this year’s award a team consisting of scientists of the Centre for Translational Bone, Joint and Soft Tissue Research (a central scientific unit of Medical Faculty and University Hospital) and the company GESIM mbH (Radeberg). In the context of an AiF-funded ZIM project the team of Dr. Anja Lode and Professor Michael Gelinsky developed together with GESIM novel biomaterials and tools for extrusion-based 3D printing and bioprinting which allow to combine two materials in a core/shell fashion. This opens up new possibilities for manufacturing of patient-specific implants and tissue engineering constructs, e.g. by integration of drug depots or artificial drug vessels. The Rectorate wishes much success in the upcoming selection process!
