RUBIN –ISC – Industriestandard Carbonbeton
From January 2022, the Institute of Construction Management (IBB) and the Institute of Concrete Structures (IMB) will be involved as scientific partners in the project "Industrial Standard Carbon Concrete (ISC)", which will be launched as part of the BMBF programme "RUBIN" (Regional Entrepreneurial Alliances for Innovation). In this project, the standards for building with carbon concrete, which have been missing until now, are being set.
The new industry standard ISC not only increases the economic efficiency and acceptance of carbon concrete as a recently developed building material. It makes new areas of application and value chains possible in the first place. Through the ISC, carbon concrete can be anchored in the market in the long term! In addition, the ISC makes an essential contribution to climate-friendly construction by saving resources and significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
A total of € 8 million in funding is available to establish the carbon concrete industry standard. The funding will be provided over 3 years from the beginning of 2022.
In the entrepreneurial alliance, the IBB will deal, among other things, with the standardised planning of construction production processes as well as the creation of quality assurance measures for the tendering and production processes of carbon concrete. Both contribute to the further integration of the carbon concrete construction method in the market. Furthermore, in-depth investigations into occupational health and safety, recycling and the digital integration of carbon concrete components will ensure that the carbon concrete construction method is standardised.
The IMB is involved in various topics within the framework of this alliance. The design concepts for carbon concrete in the ultimate limit state (LTS) are to be prepared for practical use and practical approaches for the serviceability limit state (SST) are to be developed on the basis of tests. To support the entrepreneurial partners of the alliance, accompanying tests such as tests on installation parts are to be carried out in order to be able to assess the development of the project and to transfer it to the market.
The ISC alliance still consists of 14 partners from Saxony or Saxony-Anhalt:
