Industrial expertise and academic research: VON ARDENNE and TU Dresden agree on strategic cooperation
VON ARDENNE and TU Dresden sealed the deal on a close strategic cooperation at a signing ceremony on October 30. The Dresden-based VON ARDENNE company is a world market leader in the high-tech industry, particularly in the fields of vacuum coating and thin-film technology. Strategic cooperation with TUD opens up unique opportunities for academic research and industrial expertise to mutually benefit from each other whilst allowing for innovative solutions for pioneering technologies to emerge.
“For our University of Excellence, VON ARDENNE is the perfect partner for long-term innovation projects,” says Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TU Dresden. "We are joining forces to work on the technologies of tomorrow, such as in precision optics or solar cell technologies. This makes it a win-win cooperation.”
“Our customers expect us to provide them with highly efficient systems backed up by comprehensive technology consulting,” says Pia von Ardenne, Managing Director. “The requirements for materials and functions are highly customer-specific and demand both a deep understanding of the technology behind and knowledge of the latest developments in research. At the same time, our R&D facilities enable researchers to test new approaches in materials and process technology. That is why we consider this strategic agreement to be a crucial step for both sides in developing Dresden as a hub of innovation.”
With its headquarters in Dresden, including its research and development department, VON ARDENNE is already making a significant contribution to the economic and technological development of the region. For TUD, the strategic cooperation will strengthen the local exchange of scientific knowledge and at the same time provide an opportunity to jointly implement projects with global relevance.
Cooperating with VON ARDENNE, a company firmly anchored in practical applications, will enable TUD to initiate real-world projects and offer students direct access to industry technologies and challenges. This partnership will establish a direct link between theory and practice, benefiting both the university and the company. The cooperation holds enormous potential, particularly with regard to the training of skilled workers. Students will be able work on real projects at the interface between research and industrial application, which will optimally prepare them for the demands of the labor market.
VON ARDENNE is a third-generation family business and one of the ten largest employers in the Dresden region. The company has been involved with TUD for years, supporting the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship program for early-career researchers. This year, it also became a partner in the newly founded ExciteLab – A Spin Lab Company, which originated from TUD's area of transfer.
