Transfer Project of the Month: Turning Diversity into a Strength – Dresden Materials Research Driving Innovation
Materials Research is therefore especially reliant on goal-oriented transfer activities spanning from foundational research to prototype system development.
Since its inception in 1993, the Materials Research Network Dresden (MFD) has united expertise in the fields of material technology and materials sciences of university and non-university research institutes in Dresden.
The MFD member institutes have a budget of approx. 300 million euro as well as optimally equipped pilot plants and laboratories at their disposal. They also employ over 2,500 materials researchers and technicians. Thanks to these, MFD member institutes are able to offer solutions that address challenges in the areas of mobility, urbanisation, energy, environment and health.
The MFD offers partners from research and industry a central access point for finding the right contact person for the wide variety of materials research in Dresden. Creating a network for members for initiating collaborative projects, acquiring scientific junior researchers and accompanying each project are also key responsibilities of the MFD.
Very few locations across the globe are on par with our broad scope of research and development in nearly all classes of materials – from metals, alloys and polymers to natural and composite materials and ceramics. Fundamental and applied research go hand in hand in numerous fields and offer industrial partners quick access to new technologies and products with high transfer potential.
The development chain and value chain are completed in order to drastically shorten the product development time and the time to market. The full-length article in the current issue of Dresdner Transferbrief can be found here.
Transfer Project of the Month – what is it?
The publishers of the Dresden Transfer Bulletin, together with TU Dresden, the TechnologieZentrumDresden, GWT-TUD and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, select feasible or implemented research and development projects from companies or research institutes each month. The Dresden Transfer Bulletin aims to offer regional research findings an additional channel to the public and to acknowledge efforts in research and development that are connected to utilisation. This information is meant to inspire and propel new and innovative projects. Staff members at TU Dresden, at companies or at research institutes who wish to apply for the transfer project of the month with their project may do so by simply sending us an email.
