Meet a Science Manager @ Saxon State Ministry of Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture
With this new format, we want to give you the opportunity to get to know local institutions in the field of science management. Get in touch with former postdocs and doctoral candidates and find out how the transition from academia to science management took place and what a science manager does.
Our first meeting will be at the Saxon State Ministry of Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Energie, Klimaschutz, Umwelt und Landwirtschaft, SMEKUL) on June 13th, 2024 (from 9am to 12pm). SMEKUL is an interface between science and politics. We will visit the division that is responsible for radiation protection, genetic engineering and chemicals. As the name suggests, profound knowledge on the fields of biology, chemistry and physics is needed to supervise licensees, to work on legislation or to advise policymakers.
Dr. Britta Schilling (Genetic Engineering and Chemical Safety) and Dr. Michael Anders (Nuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, alumni of HZDR) will report on their day-to-day work, how the transfer from science to science management was, and answer your questions. Be prepared to talk to Anke Hanert from the Human Resource Department, personnel recruitment and personnel development, who will tell about the requirements for a promising application, selection process for filling the position and your career opportunities at SMEKUL.
