Aims of the course are to know and understand the basic rules and values of the responsible conduct of research and to identify and prevent questionable scientific practices and misconduct. The participants will learn to develop solutions for difficult situations in the process of science and how to act appropriately. They are encouraged to speak about mistakes and problems with their colleagues and supervisors. The content is based on the curriculum “Good scientific practice” which was commissioned by and developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman. Topics amongst others are: Good scientific practice, degrees and forms of scientific misconduct, data and source management, publishing and authorship, supervision, dealing with misconduct, protecting one’s own work. The course encourages the active involvement of the participants and features case discussions, problem based learning in small groups, plenary discussion and information input. |
