What is educational technology?
Educational technology refers to the use of available techniques and procedures to design and support teaching and learning processes. The term is made up of the words "education" and "technology", whereby the focus is on the practical use of technical aids such as computers and digital media in educational processes. Historically, the term originates from the era of "programmed teaching", when the first digital learning methods were developed. Today, it is often used as a synonym for "information and communication technologies", which are increasingly shaping the educational environment. Educational technology includes not only devices such as computers, but all technical artifacts that can take on a didactic function. At TU Dresden, the Chair of Educational Technology is part of the tradition of research into computer-aided teaching and learning and offers students practice-oriented courses on digital educational approaches.
