8th state competition WTH 2022
On 18.05.2022, the 8th state competition Economy-Technology-Budget/Social Affairs (WTH) took place at the TUD Dresden University of Technology. Ten students from the eighth to tenth grades competed against each other for the title of best WTH/S student in 2022. The participating students had qualified in advance by coming top in the respective regional competitions in the Saxon Switzerland/Eastern Ore Mountains, Bautzen, Leipzig, Central Saxony and Dresden regions. The state competition was prepared and organized by students of WTH/S as part of the "Situational Project" module.
In the competition, the participants had to demonstrate both theoretical and practical knowledge of the school subject WTH. The aim this year was to produce a kneeling tray consisting of a cushion and a tray made of wooden materials. The production process was split between two specialist rooms so that two groups of pupils could work in parallel in the sewing room and the wood workshop. During the four hours of work, the participants produced sketches of the cushion and the tray in addition to the workpiece and completed the work schedules required for production. Finally, the students presented their finished knee tray in a five-minute presentation. In addition to the technical skills and the presentation, several expert juries assessed, among other things, the orderliness of the workplace, creativity and independence. The expert commission was made up of representatives of the competition sponsor LJBW e. V., the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Chamber of Crafts (HWK), VDI GaraGe e.V., the regional competition managers, WTH teachers and technical advisors, as well as lecturers and students of the WTH/S subject at TU Dresden.
The first place winner this year came from Stolpen. Finn Klose from Ludwig-Renn-Oberschule impressed everyone with a very good performance. Second place went to Svea Mißlitz from Helmholtzschule Oberschule der Stadt Leipzig. Third place went to Felix Beer from Groitzsch secondary school.
The first to third place winners received a digital soldering station, a cordless drill driver and an 89-piece toolbox as prizes. In addition, all participants received a book voucher and small gifts sponsored by HWK Sachsen, IHK Sachsen and SMK, an individualized key ring from the 3D printer and a cookie gift.
The eighth state competition was once again supported by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture in the form of funding for prizes, materials and catering for the pupils.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the head teachers and subject teachers at the participating schools who made it possible for their students to take part in the state competition in the first place.
Special thanks also go to the WTH/S teacher training students at TU Dresden, who were responsible for the task, the idea of the product to be manufactured and the planning and implementation of the state competition.
