6th state competition WTH 2020
This year, for the sixth time, the state competition for business, technology, household and social affairs (WTH) took place at the TUD Dresden University of Technology. Due to the pandemic, the event originally planned for 23.04.20 had to be canceled. Fortunately, the competition could be held on 24.09.2020, with 8 male and three female students, now in the 10th grade, competing against each other. These pupils took 1st to 3rd place in the regional competitions in the Bautzen, Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden regions.
This year's tasks consisted of making a kitchen tray in the wood workshop and preparing a potato soup in the teaching kitchen. At the end of the two-hour work periods in the workshop and the teaching kitchen, the participants presented their results in a five-minute presentation to a panel of experts. This jury was made up of representatives from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Chamber of Crafts (HWK), the regional competition management, WTH/S teachers and subject advisors as well as WTH/S teaching degree students from TUD Dresden University of Technology.
The two winners with the same number of points came from Frankenberg and Markkleeberg. Erik Kluge from the Erich-Vieweg-Oberschule Frankenberg and Marc Zimmer from the Oberschule Markkleeberg were able to impress with a very good performance. Second place went to Dominik Nixdorf from the 36th secondary school in Dresden.
This year's state competition was once again supported by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture in the form of funding for the prizes for the top three winners, consumables and catering for the pupils.
A big thank you to all the head teachers and subject teachers at the participating schools who made it possible for their students to take part in the state competition!
Special thanks also go to the WTH/S teacher training students at TU Dresden, who were responsible for the tasks, preparations, catering for the participants and the implementation.
