Event recommendation: Transformative (social) science? Opportunities, limits and risks of a claim to shape
As a hub for analysis on the points of intersection between disruption, societal change and transformation, we at TUDiSC also seek to inform you about external events or opportunities that also explore these topics. The conference "Transformative (social) science? Opportunities, limits and dangers of a creative claim" on May 22 and 23, 2025 presents itself as just such a case.
Against the backdrop of current social challenges, the debate about a new "great transformation" and questions about the "freedom of value judgment" of science, the TRAWOS Institute of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences invites you to Görlitz. The event, organized by the BMBF projects "ATRAKTIV" and "BePart", will open with a double keynote by Dr. Jan Peter Voß(RWTH Aachen) and Dr. Stefan Schweiger(TH Ingolstadt), who will shed light on the tension between transformative science and democracy as well as the role of non-transformative science. In six thematic panels, Advisors will discuss central questions regarding the significance and limits of transformative science, its role in regional development and ethical implications. Particular attention will be paid to the challenges of the practical implementation of transformative research, the development of concrete tools and a critical examination of the adoption of progress imperatives in one's own research on transformation and structural change. The conference is aimed at scientists from all disciplines as well as stakeholders from the field and offers space for intensive discussions and networking in addition to the contributions.
