Monastic Media on Instagram and Twitter

Since October, we have been collecting and examining pictorial representations of monks, nuns and monasteries on Instagram and Twitter under @MonasticMedia.

Whether monks on beer bottles, nuns in horror films or monastic backdrops in board games - these and many comparable representations enable us to draw conclusions about the prevailing images and ideas in society about our research subject.

Via our accounts, we want to share our findings and observations and enter into conversation with all those who, like us, are interested in such ideas and images. At the same time, we would like to record what social expectations are associated with our subject matter.
