Report: DAAD-Workshop "Saints and Shaping of Religious Identities" (10.04.2024–11.04.2024)
From 10.04.2024-11.04.2024, the third workshop of the DAAD project "Saints and Shaping of Religious Identities" took place at the premises of the Research Center for Comparative History of Religious Orders (FOVOG). In addition to the participating researchers, students from TU Dresden were also able to take part in this exchange.
The project aims to create an online anthology with case studies that show the various functions of saints in shaping the identity of religious communities. The question of the identity of institutional orders is an important perspective in historical studies. Its application to diverse hagiographic material will reveal new ways of using the relevant sources.
During the two days, the various saints and source texts to be examined were discussed with a focus on the mobility of saints and diachronic changes in the concept of sanctity as well as the role of saints as a bridge between the laity and religious communities. In addition, a possible cooperative online lecture series in the winter term was discussed, in which both students from TU Dresden and students from the University of Zagreb can participate.
