Conference on Friedrich Schorlemmer in Bad Alexandersbad
Annabell Hellwig, Jolinde Uhlmann, Tom Aulhorn und Luise Winkler mit Gregor Gysi
From October 31 to November 2, 2025, the conference "Friedrich Schorlemmer: pious, controversial and dedicated. Remembering a contemporary admonisher for peace" took place. The focus was on a review of the work of the theologian and civil rights activist Friedrich Schorlemmer as well as current questions about the responsibility of church voices in social peace discourses.
As part of the event, Annabell Hellwig, a doctoral student at the Institute of Protestant Theology at TU Dresden in the Department of Church History, gave a lecture entitled "Retrospective and outlook of church discourses: From 'Peace '83' to Friedrich Schorlemmer's acceptance speech in 1993". In it, she examined the development of church discourses on peace between GDR opposition and social upheaval and combined historical analysis with current perspectives. Students of the Institute from Dresden also took part in the conference and took part in the discussions.
The conference offered a variety of impulses on peace, justice and the integrity of creation — topics that are also worked on in research and teaching at the Institute of Protestant Theology.
