The departments

The Institute of Protestant Theology has three departments: the Chair of Biblical Theology (Prof. Heilmann), the Chair of Religious Education (Prof. Platow) and the Chair of Systematic Theology (Prof. Schwarke) with the associated Department of Church History (PD Dr. Michel).

Departments

Systematic Theology

On the one hand, systematic theology explores the theological tradition with regard to the respective present. On the other hand, it aims to understand the present within the horizon of tradition. This also includes ethical questions. The Department of Church History is assigned to the Chair of Systematic Theology.

Biblical Theology

Within the framework of the theological disciplines, it is the task of biblical theology to perceive the biblical tradition of the Old and New Testaments in its specific character and to make it heard, to make it transparent as the basis and starting point of all further theological theorizing and to introduce the respective profile of the biblical texts into the theological discussion as a critical authority.

Practical Theology

Practical Theology with a focus on Religious education deals with fundamental questions of teaching and learning processes with regard to religious content and experiences in a specific social context. Particularly in view of the increasing religious and ideological pluralization of society, the educational function of “religion” must be reflected upon, whereby religious education as a discipline of Protestant theology is committed to Christian principles of interpretation and design.
