Dissertation project
This study examines the challenges facing Korean Christian schools in a multi-religious society and proposes a new model of Christian Religious Education (CRE) for contemporary Korean society. Through an examination of Korea's religious history, the development of religious education, and related debates, the study analyzes the theoretical basis for reconceptualizing religious education. Using Thomas Groom's "Christian Religious Education" as a framework, it proposes an integrated model for CRE that takes into account Korea's multi-faith context and the semi-public nature of Christian schools after the "standardization" policy. The model combines "Education in Faith" to form a Christian identity and "Religious Education" to enhance religious literacy, and advocates a more evangelistic, interactive and inclusive approach to religious education that is attuned to the diverse Korean society. The study concludes with the expectation of expanding the theory and practice of CRE and offering an alternative model to address the challenges of Christian education in Korea.
