New DFG Research Project Approved: Beyond the Borders of the GDR—International­ism, the Environment, and Transformation in Art

In October 2026, the research project Beyond the Borders of the GDR: Internationalism, Environment, and Transformation in Art, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will begin at the Chair of Visual Studies and Art History. Prof. Kerstin Schankweiler, Dr. Marie Meyerding (Friedrich Schiller University of Jena), and Laura-Maria Schulze will examine, in three subprojects, how artists negotiated, visualized, crossed, reconstructed, and continue to commemorate the borders of the GDR to this day.
