Ringvorlesung Bildkulturen des Digitalen.
Die Professur für Bildwissenschaft im globalen Kontext veranstaltet im Wintersemester 2020/21 die Ringvorlesung Bildkulturen des Digitalen - Praktiken, Ästhetiken, Genres immer montags um 18.30 Uhr (Ausnahme am 07.12.2020: 11:10-12:40 Uhr). Für eine Übersicht hier klicken.
Es ist unverkennbar, dass Bilder heute in den Sozialen Medien allgegenwärtig geworden sind. Die Kommunikation war nie zuvor derart visuell geprägt. Entsprechend haben sich Bildpraktiken, Ästhetiken und Genres herausgebildet, die transnational verbreitet sind und die visuelle Kultur des digitalen Zeitalters prägen. Selfies, Videoaktivismus und Drohnenvideos sind augenfällige Beispiele für digitale Bildphänomene, deren ästhetische Dimension auf das Engste mit ihren sozialen und politischen Funktionen verbunden ist. Diese Ringvorlesung versammelt Vorträge von internationalen Forscher*innen, die sich in innovativer Weise der Herausforderung stellen, neuen Bildphänomenen auf den Grund zu gehen. Die Ringvorlesung soll den Raum bieten, Bildkulturen des Digitalen zu systematisieren, theoretisieren und historisch zu perspektivieren – es werden eventuelle Vorläufer ausgemacht oder Bezüge zur Geschichte und Gegenwart der Kunst aufgezeigt. Dabei steht die Frage im Vordergrund, welche Neukonfiguration der Bildökonomien die strukturellen Bedingungen der Sozialen Medien hervorbringen, und wie neue Bildkulturen des Digitalen entstehen. Müssen wir das digitale Bild in Zeiten des Social Web radikal neu denken?

Cultures of Images in the Digital Era – Practices, Aesthetics, Genres
It is obvious that images have become omnipresent in social media today. Communication has never been so visual before. Accordingly, image practices, aesthetics and genres have emerged that are transnationally widespread and shape the visual culture of the digital age. Selfies, video activism and drone videos are striking examples of digital image phenomena whose aesthetic dimension is intimately linked to their social and political functions. This lecture series brings together international researchers who have taken on the challenge of exploring these new image phenomena in an innovative way. The lecture series is intended to offer a platform to systematise, theorise and historically perspectivise visual cultures of the digital. Possible precursors are to be identified and references to the past as well as present of art are to be elucidated. In this instance, the main question is which new configuration of image economies the structural conditions of social media produce, and how new image cultures of the digital emerge. Do we have to radically rethink the digital image in times of the social web?
