Shyh-Tse Linus Chiou is a Master's student in Science, Technology and Society (STS) at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. His dissertation is a comparative historical analysis of the technological and scientific development in the Republic of China (ROC) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) during the Cold War. Based on archival research, he examines the roles of scientists and technocrats to find out how ideologies shape scientific practice and how science in turn strengthens state legitimacy. His other research interests include the sociology of development and historical sociology.

The research stay is funded by the Saxon Student Mobility Program. (03-06.2025)
