State Examination and Evaluation
General Information on the State Examination
The legal basis for the First State Examination is the Teacher Certification Examination Regulations I (LAPO I). The First State Examination marks the completion of the first phase—the study of a teaching degree at a university in the Free State of Saxony. According to § 1 LAPO I, the First State Examination is intended to demonstrate “that the candidate has acquired the educational, subject-specific, and, where necessary, artistic aptitude required for admission to the preparatory service for the intended teaching position.” The First State Examination takes place twice a year during designated examination periods at the universities.
The Saxon Education Agency (LASUB) is responsible for the First State Examination. Therefore, the application for admission to the First State Examination must be submitted to LASUB. LASUB announces the dates and deadlines for registration and ultimately decides on admission. You can find out which documents must be submitted for registration and what other information you need to keep in mind on the LASUB website. Once you have registered, you will be notified of your dates for the written and oral exams, either on the LASUB website or via a notice posted at the regional office.
If you have any questions regarding the organization and procedure of the state examination, please contact the Academic Affairs Office for Teacher Education at the ZLSB.

Orientation Session for the State Examination in Ethics/Philosophy
The colloquium serves as an introduction and overview; it does not replace the individual meeting with the examiner, but it does provide basic guidance and an opportunity to ask questions.
You can find the state examination colloquium in the course catalog.
