Doctoral Studies in Theoretical Philosophy

A doctoral program in philosophy at TU Dresden generally requires a relevant master’s degree or a state examination. It begins with acceptance as a doctoral student by the doctoral committee of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and is supervised by an advisor from the Institute of Philosophy. The Faculty’s doctoral regulations, as well as its procedural rules regarding registration, review, and the public defense, are governing.

Finding a Topic and a Advisor

The first step is always a conversation: Contact the person whose field of research most closely matches your topic with an outline of your project. The Chair of Theoretical Philosophy is currently vacant; the appointment process is underway. New doctoral projects in Theoretical Philosophy will therefore generally be linked to the future holder of the chair.
