Profile
The Institute performs research and teaching tasks with respect to the following areas:
- Public International Law and European (Union) Law, Public Law within its international aspects, related fields of Law and International Relations;
- Intellectual property and Technology Law, in particular Patent Law, Trademark Law, Copyright Law, Competition Law, and Media and Data Protection Law;
- Environmental Law, the Law of Renewable Energies and Genetic Engineering Law.
Next to scientific work, a special emphasis is placed upon teaching in the aforementioned areas. This includes advanced training and further education as well as intra- and interdisciplinary approaches and cooperation in teaching and research, particularly in the context of cooperation with the Center for International Studies (ZIS) and with regard to the technical, economic, social, and cultural coherences of the aforementioned areas.
The tasks of the Institute include in particular:
- conduct and support of research projects in the Institute's areas of expertise
- conduct and organization of the international Master's program "International Studies in Intellectual Property Law"
- conduct and organization of the Master's program "Business Law - Companies between Freedom and State Control" (last enrollment for winter term 2020/21)
- supply of legal courses within the Bachelor's and Master's programs "International Relations"
- supply of the certificate course "Intellectual Property Rights" with a focus on patent, copyright, media and internet law, as well as on basics of copyright and intellectual property law for prospective teachers
- supply of courses with the aim of imparting basic legal knowledge to students of all faculties of TU Dresden (Studium Generale) as well as lecture series
- maintenance and expansion of cooperation with international organizations, the judiciary, and the business community with a view to creating an effective network to support the Institute's work
- maintenance and expansion of scientific cooperation, especially with regard to research institutes active in the field of intellectual property at our partner universities in Exeter, London, Prague, Kraków, Strasbourg, Seattle, Szeged, and Tokyo; furthermore, maintenance of scientific cooperation within the framework of bilateral agreements (exchange of lecturers)
- promotion of the interdisciplinary exchange with the aforementioned areas, with special regard to technical and economic coherences
