PROF. ŠKRBIĆ AT THE 13TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE BERKELEY CENTER ON COMPARATIVE EQUALITY & ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LAW
Equality, democracy, and the rule of law are facing increasing challenges across the world. Questions of gender equality, violence against women, and the implementation of international human rights standards have become central to contemporary debates about the resilience of democratic institutions and the future of liberal democracy.
As part of the 13th Annual Conference of the Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality & Anti-Discrimination Law, entitled “Equality and Democracy in Challenging Times”, Prof. Škrbić will take part in the book roundtable “The Istanbul Convention in Action: Case Studies from Selected States Parties” (Edward Elgar, 2025). The discussion is based on the recently published volume edited by Wojciech Burek (Jagiellonian University), Katarzyna Sękowska-Kozłowska (Polish Academy of Sciences), and Andreas Zimmermann (University of Potsdam), which examines the implementation of the Istanbul Convention across different national contexts.
Prof. Škrbić is the author of the chapter “The Peculiar Case of Bosnia and Herzegovina: No Calls for Abolishing the Istanbul Convention, No Implementation Either – The Case of Femicide”. Her contribution examines the role of the Convention in shaping legal reforms and responses to femicide and domestic violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while highlighting persistent implementation challenges.
