Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden Research Associates invited to U.S. Election Night ‘Show and Tell’
Marie Briese and Andrew Erickson of the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden recently joined the North American Studies colloquium to introduce and discuss cultural artifacts on the eve of elections in the United States. They were in conversation with Speaker of the Schaufler Lab and Chair of North American Studies and Futures Studies, Jun-Prof. Dr. Moritz Ingwersen, and Prof. Dr. Carsten Junker, Chair of American Studies with a focus on Diversity Studies, as well as colleagues from the two departmental chairs and their students. Questions and topics addressed included: “what does a U.S. election ballot actually look like?”, “how do election campaign ads from Republicans and Democrats play into and establish a political imaginary?”, and “what impact do evangelicals have on the outcome(s) of the election?” These and others were considered alongside the presentation of cultural artifacts as a method to engage in broader discourses surrounding the cultural and political event.
