(Re-)Shaping the Public Sphere: Cultural Productions as/and Interventions

Schauler Lab Research Associate Andrew Erickson was in Erlangen in November 2024 to present findings from his dissertation at the Annual Conference of the Postgraduate Forum of the German Association for American Studies. His paper presentation, “Shaping the Future, Restoring the Past,” focused on the modeling power of Afrofuturist texts to offer powerful worldmaking possibilities in narrative that can—and have—also been constructed in the material world outside of fictional texts. The focus of the conference was on (Re-)Shaping the Public Sphere: Cultural Productions as/and Interventions.
