"Alternating current": The Schaufler Lab visits E-WERK Luckenwalde
Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden zu Besuch im E-WERK Luckenwalde
On February 11, the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden visited E-WERK Luckenwalde - a former lignite-fired power plant that now functions as a venue for contemporary art, a research laboratory for art electricity and ecological reflection. The location itself makes it clear how closely linked issues of technology, resources and societal responsibility are: Where fossil energy was once generated, artistic positions are now being developed in cooperation with Akademie der Künste that deal with the conditions of our technologically shaped present.
Our visit focused on the exhibition "Mensch Maschine: Return to Earth". During a guided tour of the historic building by Niels Boogers, we were given an insight into artistic works that were created as part of the residencies. The artistic positions negotiate this relationship against the backdrop of the climate crisis, digitalization and artificial intelligence - and extend this perspective to non-human living beings and planetary systems.
For the Schaufler Lab, the visit provided valuable inspiration for its own work at the interface of art, science and technology. Our sincere thanks go to E-WERK Luckenwalde and especially to Niels Boogers for the exciting guided tour and the stimulating exchange.
