Theatre Workshop WS 2020-21
Dear Students,
perhaps, you have already seen what I have posted on Facebook, but I have received more information since then.
The Theatre Workshop will be held during the WS 2020-21 under strict Corona regulations, i.e. no more than 8 students per group, so register quickly on Opal if you want to become a star!
Group 1: Tuesday and Thursday from 11:10 to 12:40 in room BSS 109. It is mandatory to attend twice a week! For this group, I have chosen a very powerful drama on the genocide in Darfur (https://wintermiller.com/in-darfur). Moreover, we have been asked to put on this play in England during the “Coventry UK City of Culture 2021” festival! Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, the festivities have been pushed back to May, so we are scheduled for the Whitsun break, i.e. the week of May 24th, which means that you should not sign up for this group if you are not around in May 2021… The city of Dresden has accepted to finance our trip once again because we were such a big hit in February 2020 when we performed “Train of Life” in Coventry! Finally, I am working on getting us a gig in Wroclaw in April (17th or 24th), so the actors do not forget all their lines between our Dresden performances at the end of January and the one in the UK at the end of May!
Group 2: Tuesday and Thursday from 13:00 to 14:30 in room BSS 109. It is mandatory to attend twice a week! For this group, students had asked me to select an Agatha Christie play, so I picked “The Mousetrap”, which has 8 roles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mousetrap).
Because our semester will be shorter since we only start on October 26th, I have decided to have our Dresden performances one week later than usual:
Group 1: Dress rehearsal on January 27th, 1st performance on January 30th and 2nd performance on February 1st.
Group 2: Dress rehearsal on January 25th, 1st performance on January 28th and 2nd performance on January 29th.
On these days, you need to be free from 17:00 (18:10 if you have a class in the 6th lesson block) to 22:00. Towards the end of the semester (probably on January 16th and/or 24th), we might need extra rehearsals.
The “Kino im Kasten” still does not know if performances will be allowed in the auditorium. If so, they will likely be under Corona restrictions, i.e. no more than 40 to 50 people in the audience.
Before you register on Opal, make sure you are available for the performance dates. The first 8 students on the class list will be accepted, so hurry on registration day!
Best regards,
Marc
P.S. The Theatre Workshop is an optional course. If you need more than 2 credit points, you will also have to write a review in addition to your performance.
