ASA 2023 - Panel Presentation "Contemporary Manifestos between Disruption, Individualized Well-being, and Communal Care"
Professor Carsten Junker presents the paper "Contemporary Manifestos between Disruption, Individualized Well-being, and Communal Care" at the ASA 2023 conference called "Solidarity: What Love Looks Like in Public" in the Panel “The Manifesto in Image, Text, and Movement". Carsten Junker discusses select manifestos that are diverse in thematic outlook but share an insistence on social and cultural disruption. Using the disruptive potential of the genre, however, does not mean that they only work against something, they are also mobilized for specific causes, not least for building communities of (self-)care among readers, stressing experiential commonalities, and creating a shared sense of belonging. Taking up ASA 2023’s theme of solidarity, special attention is paid to texts that seem particular in line with solidarity and may have something to say about what love can and should look like in public.
