Chair Profile
The department deals with teaching and learning processes of foreign languages using the example of English. As subject-specific didactics, particular attention is paid to teaching and learning under institutional conditions - such as school, but also adult education - without, however, ignoring the insights that allow the much more frequent (foreign) language learning processes to be developed outside institutional contexts. In English, the field is referred to as ELT (English Language Teaching), EFL (English as a Foreign Language), ESP (English for Special Purposes), TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) or Language Teaching Pedagogy / Methodology. The focus in Dresden is on listening comprehension, language of instruction, new media and language testing. The latter also includes the UNIcert® office, which coordinates and accredits foreign language training and certification programs in higher education throughout Germany and now also throughout Europe.
