“Machine Ecologies: A Speculative History of How Models of Nature and Models of Machines are Shaping Society“
Thursday, 13th June 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Place: in presence at the B CUBE, E73 + E74 (TUD)
This talk will discuss how models of adaptation, evolution, and change in socio-technical systems inform and are in turn informed by our ideas of "natural" and biological systems. Surveying examples from my own work on histories of smart cities and Infrastructures, AI, and finance, I hope to pose critical questions about how we are imagining the future of technology and the human. I hope to start a conversation about how scientific understandings of evolution and adaptation might inform or challenge sociological, engineering, and political comprehensions of how systems evolve and change.
