Centre for East Asian Studies at TU Dresden resumes operations
Kueh Suat-ôo郭雪湖 (1908 – 2012), Festival on South Street (1930) - Detail
After a six-month hiatus, the Centre for East Asian Studies (OAZ) at TU Dresden resumed operations on June 15, 2026. Language courses in Chinese and Japanese (A1 to B1.2 / UNIcert® Primary and I) continue as before in cooperation with TU Dresden Institute of Advanced Studies GmbH (TUDIAS).
New as of Winter Semester 2026/27: in the newly launched A1 Chinese courses, Standard Mandarin will be taught for the first time in both its mainland and Taiwanese varieties, and students will have the option to choose between simplified and traditional characters when learning the Chinese script — enabling targeted preparation for study abroad programs in either the PRC or Taiwan.
The Area Studies on East Asia is currently being reconceived, with a stronger integration into the elective and supplementary modules of other degree programs. New courses are planned for the summer semester of 2027 at the earliest; details on content and credit transfer will follow once internal consultations are complete.
