Colloquium "Epochal change - before and after 1918: war, peace, revolution"
From January 30 to February 1, 2019, the farewell colloquium for Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Walter Schmitz will take place under the title "Epochal change - before and after 1918: war, peace, revolution". Walter Schmitz will take place. It will bring together advisors from various disciplines from Germany, Lithuania, Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Walter Schmitz: "... only Germans". Literature and the cohesion of society before and after the First World War (farewell lecture on retirement)
Antanas Gailius is one of the most important Lithuanian poets and translators. He translated works by Kant, Schiller, Kafka and Rilke, among others, into Lithuanian. He has been honored with awards including the Austrian Ministry of Culture and the Lithuanian PEN Center.
Walter Schmitz was Full Professor of Modern German Literature and Cultural History at TU Dresden from 1992 to 2018. He has been Director of the Central European Center since 2000. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Iaşi (Romania).
