The Botany Department comprises 4 working groups: 1.) Phanerogamen I (K. Wesche): Plant Ecology, Conservation, Biogeography, Flora of Central Europe. 2.) Phanerogamen II (C. Ritz): Evolution and Systematics of Vascular Plants 3.) Lichens and Bryophytes (V. Otte): Taxonomy, Ecology and Biogeography of Lichens and Mosses 4.) Mycology (U. Damm): Taxonomy and Systematics with a focus on phytoparasitic fungi

Collections are our key research infrastructures; the Görlitz collections on Vascular Plant, Lichens, Mosses and Fungi are part of the larger Herbarium Senckenbergianum. The Botany Team has close cooperations with a number of domestic and international partners including among others: • German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig (funding member) • Crop Research Institute – Liberec • School of Biology, National University of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar • Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yakutsk, Russia
