IHI Zittau Reaches Record Number of Students
140 students from 22 countries began their master’s programs in the winter semester of 2026/2027 at the International Institute (IHI) Zittau, part of the TUD Dresden University of Technology. This means that enrollment figures remain at the high level of previous years, and the number of students at IHI Zittau is approaching 400 for the first time in the institute’s history.
Prorektorin Prof. Roswitha Böhm begrüßte die neuen Studierenden
As before, the largest group of students—apart from those from Germany—comes from the neighboring country of the Czech Republic, thanks to the continued high demand for the double-degree program in International Management with the Technical University of Liberec, which is offered in collaboration with the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. Demand from the partner university in Pardubice is also growing and contributing to the strong enrollment of Czech students.
In the field of ecology- and biology-related degree programs, the consistently strong demand from Asian and African students stands out in particular: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Ghana are the main countries of origin here.
Prof. Aleš Kocourek, Rektor der TU Liberec
At the ceremony to welcome the new students in the magnificent Bürgersaal of Zittau City Hall, in addition to IHI Director Prof. Thorsten Claus and the Vice-Rector University Culture and Internationalization, Prof. Roswitha Böhm, representatives from the IHI Zittau’s partner institutions in Poland and the Czech Republic also addressed the students. The keynote speeches were delivered by Prof. Axel Gehrmann, Director of the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB) at TUD, and by the Rector of TU Liberec, Prof. Aleš Kocourek.
