ZLSB Project Day in Zittau

On September 8, 2026, the IHI Zittau hosted approximately 40 employees from the Center for Teacher Education, School, and Vocational Education Research (ZLSB) at TUD as part of a project day.

The participants came from a wide variety of departments within the ZLSB—including staff from the Academic Affairs Office, the Teacher Academy, the In-Service Qualification Program for Career Changers (BQL), the Research and Teaching Team, and the Digital Team.

A Day Full of Encounters and Inspiration

After a warm welcome from Prof. Claus, the director of the International Institute (IHI) Zittau, participants gained fascinating insights into the history of the building—which was originally used as a hotel—during a tour of the historic premises. The tour, led by Ms. Scheunig and Mr. Tettenborn, vividly conveyed the unique features and charm of the location.

A “meet and greet” was also held in the morning, which external guests took advantage of to engage in dialogue with ZLSB staff and discuss the work of the regional office. These encounters offered a valuable opportunity to forge new connections and share perspectives.

A Strong Signal for the Region

The regional office in Zittau is unique in Germany and represents a crucial step toward making the ZLSB’s services accessible in rural regions as well. It strengthens the connection between urban and rural areas and stands as a symbol of the Center’s innovative spirit and commitment to shaping the future. Teachers and educational institutions in the region benefit from new opportunities, and close collaboration between academia and practice is being intensified.

Its central location at the International University Institute in Zittau, right on the market square, makes the office an ideal hub for exchange and further development in teacher education. The location also underscores the institution’s international and welcoming character, as well as the city’s cultural diversity.

A Successful Completion

After a group lunch at the “Kraatzschn” cafeteria, the day was rounded off with a guided tour of the historic old town. Organized by the tourism center, the tour offered participants the opportunity to discover Zittau’s cultural and historical treasures and enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere.

The project day was a complete success: It not only strengthened cooperation within the ZLSB but also highlighted the importance of the Regional Office for Teacher Education as a flagship project for the region and beyond.
