Markus Scholz at the AIT-Talks in Vienna: Focus on the "Triple Transition" and the Role of Human-Centered Technologies
Professor Markus Scholz recently participated as a guest speaker at the new AIT Austrian Institute of Technology Talks in Vienna, held from September 12 to 13. This innovative event, hosted in the Austrian capital, focused on the "Triple Transition" – ecological, digital, and human transformation. Alongside renowned experts such as Elizabeth Churchill, Boris De Ruyter, and Natascha Kantauer-Gansch, Dr. Scholz discussed in front of around 800 attendees how a "Human-Centered Transition" can be successfully achieved.
For Markus Scholz, it was clear that technological innovations only matter if they benefit people and cause no harm. He was particularly fascinated by the advancements in medical technology enabled by artificial intelligence, which have the potential to positively impact many lives. At the same time, he raised concerns about the increasing proliferation and funding of potentially harmful socio-technological systems.
In addition to his participation in the AIT Talks, MarkusScholz was involved in an academic project addressing the challenges of the Enlightenment in the 21st century. Together with Cristina Neesham, Dennis Schoeneborn, and Andreas Scherer, he co-authored a Guest Editors' Introduction for Cambridge University Press titled “New Challenges to the Enlightenment: How Twenty-First-Century Sociotechnological Systems Facilitate Organized Immaturity and How to Counteract It.” The paper highlights the danger that modern socio-technological systems may foster organized immaturity and explores how to counteract this development.
