Business ethics: Markus Scholz in “Furche” – Values demanded of economic actors
Prof. Dr. Markus Scholz, holder of the Chair of Business Administration, especially Responsible Management at TU Dresden, was quoted in an article in the newspaper “Die FURCHE” on his current assessment of the role of companies in democracy and values. In his new book “Wirtschaft mit Werten” (Economy with Values), Dr. Markus Scholz calls for greater political engagement on the part of companies – especially in times of growing social tensions.
In an interview with Doris Helmberger-Fleck, editor-in-chief of “Die FURCHE”, Markus Scholz argues that companies should take responsibility for protecting liberal democracies. He sees economic activity as having not only an economic dimension, but also a deeply social one.
For him, value orientation is not only a moral imperative, but also a strategic one: companies that commit to democratic principles also strengthen their social legitimacy. He also warns against narrowing corporate responsibility to mere profit-making – especially at a time when populism and anti-democratic developments pose not only political but also economic risks.
