Curriculum Vitae
PD Dr. rer. pol. habil. Eckhard Burkatzki is a private lecturer at the International University Institute (IHI) Zittau (since January 2013, a central scientific institution of the Technical University of Dresden). He studied sociology at Bielefeld University from 1989 to 1996 and graduated in 1996 with a degree in sociology. From 1997 to 2001, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Criminology, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure Law at the Faculty of Law at Bielefeld University. From 2001 to 2004, he worked on the DFG research project “Media Behavior of Young People” at Bielefeld University. In 2005, he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University (“Is Homo economicus replacing Homo communis?”).
In the fall of 2005, he moved to the IHI Zittau, which at the time of his initial appointment was still an independent academic institution of the Free State of Saxony. In 2012, he completed his habilitation (Dr. rer. pol. habil.) at the IHI Zittau with a thesis on “Crime in the Market Context”; since December 2012, he has been authorized to teach social sciences, in particular methods of empirical social research. Since January 2013, the IHI Zittau has been a central scientific institution of the TU Dresden. Since 2013, he has been an appointed member of the editorial board of the ACC Journal of the Academic Coordination Center in the Euroregion Neisse (ACC). In cooperation with the multi-stakeholder initiative MaxTex, he led the empirical research project “Textile Sustainability in Crisis Mode” until 2020. He was also a research partner in the international Global Survey of Business Ethics consortium from 2022 to 2025. Since April 2024, he has been a representative of the mid-level faculty on the examination boards of the IHI master's programs.
