An Analysis of the Positioning of German Chambers in Dealing with Right-Wing Extremist Movements
Background and Objectives
The research project "Willing, but Hesitant" analyzes how German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and Chambers of Crafts perceive and respond to right-wing extremist and populist movements. Conducted in collaboration between the University of St. Gallen and TU Dresden, the study examines the strategic and communicative measures taken by chambers in addressing this societal challenge.
A particular focus is placed on the tensions between political neutrality, economic responsibility, and democratic engagement. The study explores to what extent chambers are encouraged by their member companies to take a clearer stance and how legal frameworks shape their actions.
