01.11.2022: 60 Minutes: "Sustainability standards and labels for companies"
Description:
Sustainability standards and labels help companies to orient themselves toward economic, ecological, and/or social sustainability in the production of their products or the provision of services. In addition, they can serve as a distinguishing feature for the companies themselves compared to companies that operate in a conventional manner. This also makes it easier for stakeholders to recognize sustainable products and services. As a result, sustainable purchasing decisions can be promoted, as consumers save both time and costs (e.g. for information acquisition). However, these positive effects can be limited by various factors. On the one hand, the orientation function is limited if too many sustainability standards and labels appear on the market for different sectors or product types. On the other hand, the use of standards that are perceived to be too low can lead to their credibility being called into question. The 60 Minutes "Sustainability standards and labels for companies" will explore these issues in more detail and show how sustainable standards and labels are developed and how the problem of credibility can be solved to achieve environmental quality, social justice, and economic prosperity.
