22 MAY 2022: International Day for Biological Diversity
On 22 May, we celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity. Hurray for the biodiversity that makes our survival possible in the first place! But is it really a reason to celebrate? Biodiversity continues to decline at an alarming rate. This has devastating consequences for us humans. It is time for action and each of us can contribute. A list of 22 actions for biodiversity conservation everyone can do can be found here.
This October, the 15th meeting of the UN Conference on Biodiversity (COP15) will take place, where the new global framework for biodiversity after 2020 will be adopted. Every day left before the UN Biodiversity Conference counts to make our voice heard loud and clear: Let the world know that we want a strong global biodiversity framework that will “bend the curve” on biodiversity loss. Let the world know that we care about our future! The Secretariat “Convention on Biological Diversity” is asking for videos and written statements from all regions of the world. The team of the Chair Environmental Management supports the International Day for Biological Diversity 2022 through a short video to spread the message of "building a shared future for all life". If you want to get involved, you can find more information here.
