Prof. Dr. habil. Willi Xylander is the director of the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz and holds the chair of the Department of Soil Zoology. As professor at the TUD and the IHI Zittau he teaches systematics, phylogeny and taxonomy (mainly) of invertebrates and a module on Museums & Collections. He is furthermore involved in the modules in ecology. The colleagues from the departments of soil zoology and zoology of the museum as well as from other Senckenberg institutes join the different zoological modules of the master course with their specific expertise.

Research

The chair focusses on soil zoology, systematics and taxonomy of plathelminths, streaming ecology.

Studies

The chair is involved in the masters`programmes "Biodiversity & Collection Management" and "Ecosystem Services". It teaches systematics, phylogenese and taxonomy of invertebra and a module on museums and collections. It is participated in modules on ecology.

Who we are

Prof. Xylander is the director of the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz. The Museum has 15 research fields where currently over 50 scientists are working. They contribute their skills and expertise to the master course to expand your expertise in taxonomy, systematic, phylogeny, biogeography and ecology in theory and practice and to impart solid know-how.

Senckenberg Görlitz as well as other Senckenberg institutes provide additional offerings e. g. during the internships in the second semester as well as the master thesis in the forth semester.
