Purposes and legal basis of data processing
The social media presence is part of TUD's public relations work, with the aim of providing interested parties with information tailored to their target group and engaging in dialogue with them. TUD enables social media users to quickly establish electronic contact and communicate directly via the media of their choice. The legal basis for TUD’s public relations work is § 3 para. 1 of the Saxon Data Protection Implementation Act (SächsDSDG).
In individual cases, TU Dresden will process personal data in order to respond to questions from users that are sent to TUD as personal messages and in comments, i.e., in the form of proactive contact. We do not generally proactively contact users via social media. Such data are used solely for the purpose requested by the user, for example, to answer a question or establish contact. If TUD requests consent for the processing of personal data, the legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 letter a) GDPR.
No data are shared with third parties. Furthermore, no personal data will be processed except for the purpose of answering general questions.

Data protection declarations of the operating platforms
This Data Protection Declaration shall apply to online services of TUD that are operated by the university itself and, to the extent that we process personal data on our own responsibility, as an addition. TUD points out that the operating platforms process personal data of users outside the university's area of responsibility. The exact scope and purpose of data storage and processing by these companies are not fully known to TUD.
Joint responsibility
External service providers are primarily responsible for data processing within the meaning of the GDPR and other national data protection laws of the EU member states, but TUD is also responsible to a lesser extent. This constitutes joint responsibility under Article 26 GDPR. TUD only processes personal data to the extent strictly necessary. Further information on data processing can be found in the following links to the privacy policies of the external providers.
The data protection declarations of the platform operators can be found here:
In particular, an Agreement on Joint Responsibility has been concluded with Facebook. This agreement stipulates that Facebook is primarily responsible for data processing and that TUD does not have access to individual visitor data, but can only retrieve aggregated statistics, such as gender or age distribution. Furthermore, Facebook commits to respecting the rights of affected individuals and, for example, responding to requests for information, objections, or deletion.
Content and posts, requests that violate the rights of third parties or that constitute a criminal offense or administrative offense, or that do not comply with legal or contractual obligations, will be disclosed by TU Dresden to the competent authority or social media service, and blocked or deleted.
TUD uses cookies, log files, and statistics from the above-mentioned social media providers to compile business statistics. As far as possible and without impairing the purpose of processing, we anonymize or pseudonymize this personal data.
