Professor Dr.-Ing. Steffen Bernet studied electrical engineering at the Technischen Universität Dresden. In 1995 he obtained his doctorate from the Technischen Universität Ilmenau in the field of soft-switching power semiconductors. From 1995 to 1996 he worked as a postdoc at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA.

Subsequently he worked at the ABB Forschungszentrum (Research Centre) Heidelberg, where he led the Electrical Drive Systems group and various international research projects. As a sub-programme manager he was also responsible for ABB's research in the fields of power electronic systems, electrical drives and electrical machines. In 2001, he was appointed Professor of Power Electronics at the Technische Universität Berlin. Since 2007 he has been Professor in the field of power electronics at the Technische Universität Dresden.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Steffen Bernet is an expert in the field of power electronics.

His professional interests concern, in particular: power semiconductors, medium and high power converters and electrical drives.
