Energy research must find solutions for the necessary energy transformation in order to enable the transition to a sustainable and resilient energy system. Key research questions concern innovative grid management and automation concepts, exergetically optimized energy transformers, high-performance energy storage systems, flexible industrial processes and improved forecasting models for energy supply.

The Future Energy Lab also strives for cross-divisional research projects - particularly in cooperation with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences as well as School of Civil and Environmental Engineering - in order to link technological innovations with social, ecological and scientific perspectives.
