AC2DC Phase II
| Project title: | AC2DC Phase II |
| Acronym: | AC2DC Phase II |
| Project responsibility: | Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Schegner |
| Aim: | The aim of the project is to verify new approaches to counteract the overloading of AC lines and the increasing destabilization of the grids. To this end, AC cable connections operating at the load limit are to be converted into DC cable connections. In addition, the development of technologies for the provision of simple DC distribution grids is being pursued, for example to map conventional power plant operation with DEAs. |

| Description: | In the AC2DC II project, DC transformers are required to connect systems in wind farms such as wind turbines, electrolysis plants, battery storage systems and fuel cells to the medium-voltage DC grid (MVDC grid). The MVDC grid is intended to replace the 110 kV collector grids for new plants. As part of the project, MR is developing a functional model for such a DC transformer or DC/DC converter.
converter. This is to be tested first in the laboratory and then in the field. In key areas such as voltage load and current load, these will be verified with measured current curves on a real application of the DC/DC converter in the laboratory and in the field tests and their relevance for the heating of the cable systems evaluated. Protection algorithms are to be developed for the selective protection technology that detect and localize the fault as quickly as possible. These are then to be implemented in a real-time application in order to be verified and applied both in the laboratory and in a field test. The power quality is to be analyzed through measurements and simulations. |
