The lecture Multimodal User Interfaces is aimed at students of computer science degree programs and all students who are interested in the design of multimedia user interfaces and the integration of various input techniques. In an introduction, the requirements of multimodal systems for the synchronization of input and output media as well as the XML language EMMA for the architecture of multimodal user interfaces on the web are presented.
Some of the topics for multimodal interaction are
- Voice dialogs (via voice assistants such as Siri and Alexa) as well as speech recognition and speech synthesis techniques
- Sound generation (sonification)
- Audio and haptics
- Multi-touch gestures and their recognition
- Haptics and force feedback
The lecture builds on the human-computer interaction course. In the exercises, solutions are programmed in real life (e.g. Alexa Skills).

Information on mental health The vocational training or qualification phase in the transition between school and later working life is a crucial and at the same time sensitive phase of life. You should therefore take care of your mental health, especially in challenging situations such as exam phases or before deadlines. You are welcome to use our OPAL resources on mental health (Mental Health First Aid, MHFA) as a starting point. |
