For reasons of cost and flexibility, more and more devices from the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are being used in industrial environments, especially for retrofitted solutions. However, when using such resource-constrained devices, meeting industry-specific data quality requirements becomes a critical challenge, as inherent system heterogeneities compromise native data integrity. In particular, the use of IIoT sensors generates data streams of inconsistent data quality right at the data source.

In particular, varying precision, diverging sampling rates, and temporal asynchrony of the different sensors lead to problematic data quality. This hinders the use of this data, especially as training data for AI integration. The aim of this work is to

•     determine data stream operations for stabilizing the quality of the source data,
•     analyze which of these operations are already used in industrial environments,
•     develop a conceptual system design for the use of such operations for IIoT integration.

The work is divided into the following main areas:

• Literature research on existing methods and brief evaluation

In Industry 4.0, asset administration shells (AAS) are used as digital representations of physical assets, containing their properties, statuses, and lifecycle data and linking them to real-time data from operations. This approach enables precise management, monitoring, and optimization of plants and processes. In the field of building automation, the trend is increasingly moving toward intelligent, networked building management with sensor-based systems and automated controls. If the building itself is viewed as an Industry 4.0 asset, new opportunities open up for the integration of real-time data, maintenance information, energy consumption data, and environmental parameters into a comprehensive digital administration shell. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the Industry 4.0 administration shell approach can be transferred to building automation in order to view the building as an asset whose digital representation (the administration shell) integrates all relevant information for operation, maintenance, and optimization.

Task:
The bachelor thesis should demonstrate how a building can be represented as an Industry 4.0 asset with an administration shell (AAS). In particular, the integration of live data (e.g., from sensors and actuators), the linking of building components, and the life cycle data of the building should be considered. The goal is to create a digital twin of the building that enables precise and efficient management and optimization of building operations.

Subtasks:

The quality of the data collected often has a decisive influence on the accuracy and efficiency of processes, for example in predictive maintenance, production control, or quality control. Faulty, inaccurate, or incomplete data can lead to wrong decisions, resulting in costly downtime or quality defects. Therefore, ensuring high data quality in IoT sensors is becoming increasingly important.

Subtasks:

• Introduction to IoT sensors and their significance for industrial applications:
• Overview of common IoT sensors and their areas of application, as well as an explanation of the role of IoT sensors in industrial systems (e.g., automation, process monitoring, smart manufacturing).

Im Kontext von Industrie 4.0 (I4.0) gewinnt die Modellierung von Protokollen für eine flexible und strukturierte Netzwerkverwaltung zunehmend an Bedeutung. Die Grundlage dafür bieten die Informationsmodelle und die daraus resultierenden digitalen Zwillinge der entsprechenden Netzwerkelemente. Durch die Verwaltungsschale (engl. Asset Administration Shell, kurz AAS) ist eine interoperable Spezifikation für digitale Zwillinge in der I4.0 vorgegeben. Verschiedene Schnittstellenbeschreibungen wie MQTT oder HTTP können unter Verwendung des AAS-Teilmodelltemplates Asset Interface Description (AID) als Teilmodell in einer AAS modelliert werden. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Brücke zwischen etablierten Netzwerkmanagement Protokollen und digitalen Zwillingen der I4.0 zu bilden. Dabei ist die aktuell spezifizierte AID für die Modellierung von Netzwerkverwaltungs­schnittstellen eines Assets zu erweitern. Für eine abschließende Diskussion soll das erstellte Modell in einer existierenden Laborumgebung unter Verwendung zu implementierender Netzwerkmanagement-Konnektoren umgesetzt werden.

Damit solche Assets in Industrie 4.0-Systemen verwendet werden können, müssen sie als I4.0-Komponente agieren und Ihre Fähigkeiten über digitale Zwillinge in Form einer Industrie 4.0 Verwaltungsschale abbilden. Zur Realisierung der Interaktion und Kooperation mit anderen Assets wird eine proaktive Verwaltungsschale benötigt, welche wiederum eine Laufzeitumgebung erfordert, die ihre Dienste über I4.0 konforme APIs anbietet. Spezifiziert werden diese APIs in “Details of the Asset Administration Shell Part 2 – Interoperability at Runtime – Exchanging Information via Application Programming Interfaces”. Nach bisherigem Stand der Technik sind eine technisch neutrale API und eine technologiespezifische API für HTTP/REST definiert. Für die Ermittlung der Fähigkeiten des Assets bzw. der Ausführung funktionaler Aspekte wird jedoch ein vielfältiges Spektrum an APIs benötigt. Insbesondere wird eine Query API benötigt um die Fähigkeiten und Eigenschaften der Assets über die Verwaltungsschale abfragen zu können. Für eine derartige Query API soll –  auf Grundlage der existierenden API-Definition –ein Entwurf und eine prototypische Implementierung erfolgen. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit sind in geeigneter Weise zu evaluieren und umfassend zu dokumentieren.

Voraussetzungen: Erfahrung mit C#, Python oder C++, Grundlagenwissen in der Automation, der Besuch einer oder mehrerer Vorlesungen zu diesem Themengebiet an unserem Lehrstuhl wäre vorteilhaft.

Dieses Thema eignet sich sowohl für eine Studien-, als auch für eine Bachelorarbeit.

Eine solche Verwaltungsschale benötigt eine Laufzeitumgebung, um mit anderen Assets aktiv interagieren zu können. Diese Laufzeitumgebung bietet ihre Dienste über Industrie 4.0 konforme APIs, die von der Plattform Industrie 4.0 spezifiziert werden. Aktuell sind eine allgemeine technisch neutrale API und eine technologiespezifische API für HTTP/REST definiert. Offen ist, wie diese APIs auf Korrektheit und Konformität verifiziert und validiert werden können um entsprechende fehlerfreie und konsistente Software zu entwickeln. Während der Prozess der Verifizierung die Software gegenüber der Spezifikation überprüft beurteilt der Prozess der Validierung, wie gut das System die zuvor festgelegten Anforderungen erfüllt. Im Bereich der API-Testung prüft die Verifikation, ob die I4.0-Komponente die Spezifikation in Bezug auf Attribute und Elemente aus der Spezifikation erfüllt, während die Validierung prüft, ob die API die Anforderungen und Einschränkungen eines AAS Typ2 erfüllt. Diese Themen stehen im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit. Für die Testung der API sind verschiedene Methoden und Verfahren aus der Validierung und Verifikation von API aufzuzeigen. Darüber hinaus soll ein Entwurf für die Testung der I4.0 API erfolgen und prototypisch eine Implementierung an einem geeigneten Beispiel demonstriert werden.

In der Industrie werden zunehmend eigenständig kommunikationsfähige Assets verwendet. Damit solche Assets in Industrie 4.0-Systemen verwendet werden können, müssen sie als I4.0-Komponente, mittels digitaler Zwilling in Form einer Verwaltungsschale, abgebildet werden. Diese Abbildung spiegeln sich auch in der Kommunikationsfähigkeit wieder. Aktuelle industrielle Trends führen zu einem Anstieg des Netzwerkverkehrs in immer größer werdenden konvergenten Netzwerken. Solche Netzwerke erfordern Flexibilität und Skalierbarkeit, um sowohl kleine Geräte als auch große Datenserversysteme zu unterstützen und gleichzeitig eine begrenzte Latenz für zeitkritische Kommunikation zu gewährleisten. Dies führt zu einem steigenden Anspruch an die Konfigurierbarkeit sowie das Monitoring solcher Systeme. Dabei könnten die erhobenen Informationen über eine geeignete KI Infrastruktur ausgewertet und aufbereitet werden. Im Rahmen des Komplexpraktikums soll ein Monitoringsystem für I4.0 Komponente für das Netzwerk über das Konzept Verwaltungsschale realisiert werden. Dafür ist das aktuelle Monitoringsystem mit den benötigten Modellen und Funktionalitäten an einem gegebenen Testsystem zu erweitern. Die erarbeiteten Ergebnisse sind umfassend zu testen und zu dokumentieren sowie die Ergebnisse der Projektarbeit innerhalb eines Kolloquiums zu präsentieren.

Darüber hinaus soll ein Entwurf für eine derartige API erfolgen und prototypisch eine Implementierung an einem geeigneten Beispiel demonstriert werden. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit sind in geeigneter Weise zu evaluieren und umfassend zu dokumentieren. 

Aufgaben: 

• Analyse der spezifizierten APIs für I4.0 Digital Twin (AAS) z.B.: HTTP REST

• Recherche von Interface Beschreibungssprachen z.B. Protocol Buffers, GraphQL SDL

• Aufbereiten einer intermediaten Repräsentation und Umsetzung der Modelltransformation 

• Erzeugen einer geeigneten API für Streaming & Query der AAS z.B. gRPC, GraphQL

Damit Assets in zukünftigen Industrie 4.0-Systemen verwendet werden können, müssen sie als I4.0-Komponente abgebildet werden. Dies wird über die I4.0 Verwaltungsschale realisiert. Jedoch können Leistung und Verbindungseigenschaften von I4.0 Assets unterschiedlichen Beschränkungen unterliegen. Daher bietet es sich an, verschiedene Teile der Verwaltungsschale in unterschiedlichen Systembestandteilen zu realisieren.

Dabei ist der jeweilige Aspekt des Assets und deren Verwendung zu berücksichtigen.

Dynamische Aspekte müssen in direkter Nähe des Assets realisiert werden, während aufwendigere Operationen an rechentechnisch mächtigere Komponenten, wie z.B. die Cloud ausgelagert werden können. In dieser Arbeit sollen verteilte Ansätze zur Bereitstellung und Ausführung von I4.0 Verwaltungsschalen für I4.0 Assets untersucht werden.

Aufgabe:

• Analyse der unterschiedlichen Aspekte der Assets
• Analyse der Industrie 4.0-Verwaltungsschale
• Entwurf eines Konzepts für verteilte Verwaltungsschalen
• Implementierung eines Prototyps

Die erarbeiteten Ergebnisse sind umfassend zu dokumentieren und innerhalb eines Kolloquiums zu präsentieren.

Für einen flexiblen und strukturierten Systementwurf wird die Modellierung im Bereich Industrial IoT und Industrie 4.0 immer wichtiger. Dabei kommen unterschiedliche Arten der Modellbildung wie funktionale Modellierung, Daten- und Informationsmodellbildung oder Metamodellierung zum Einsatz. Mit einer zunehmenden Anzahl an aufkommender Modelle werden Methoden für die Generierung, Transformation und Verknüpfung dieser Modelle immer relevanter.

Im Rahmen der Arbeit sind verschiedene in Industrie 4.0 und Industrial IoT aktuell verbreitete Modelle zu analysieren sowie unterschiedliche Verfahren zur Modellverarbeitung zusammenzustellen und zu erläutern. Darüber hinaus ist die Anwendung exemplarisch an einem Beispiel zu zeigen.

Aufgabe:

• Verschiedene Arten zur Modellbildung vorstellen
• Verbreitete Meta-/Informationsmodelle im Bereich Industrie I4.0 und IIoT vorstellen
• Verfahren zur Verknüpfung bzw. Umwandlung von Modellen vorstellen
• Exemplarische Anwendung eines Verfahrens am geeigneten Beispiel

Das zentrale Element in der Entwicklung von Industrie 4.0 ist die Modellierung der Verwaltungsschale (engl. Asset Administration Shell, kurz AAS), mit beliebig vielen Submodellen. Dabei muss das AAS (Meta-)Modell genutzt werden. Existierenden Realisierungen, in XML oder JSON, fehlt jedoch die Möglichkeit komplexe Aspekte vollständig darzustellen und komplizierte Zusammenhänge auszudrücken. Aus diesem Grund muss die Modellierung der AAS in ausdrucksstärkeren Konzepten oder höheren Sprachebenen erfolgen. Ein Ansatz könnte die Abbildungen in Ontologien, DSLs oder Metasprachen sein.

Aufgabe:

• Beschreibung der Möglichkeiten zur (Meta-)Modellierung abseits der bestehenden Formate
• Erfassen, erweitern und überprüfen des AAS Metamodells in semantisch ausdrucksstarker Sprache
• Modellierung der Funktionalität zur Verwaltung der Assets
• Realisieren der Funktionalität zur Verwaltung der Assets aus der Modellierung am Prototyp
• Ableitung eines Prototyps aus der erstellten Ontologie
